Case Study: How a Norwegian Womenswear Brand Built a Reliable Bangladesh Knitwear Supply Chain

Client: Norwegian womenswear brand Product: Fancy knitwear and ladies tops Volume: ~25,000 pieces per season across 8–9 styles Relationship: 3 years and ongoing Origin: LinkedIn outreach

The Client

A growth-stage Norwegian womenswear brand with a strong retail presence in Scandinavia and an expanding wholesale footprint across Northern Europe. Known for design-forward knitwear — bold textures, intricate stitch patterns, fashion-forward colourways — the brand had outgrown its existing European near-shore production and needed a Bangladesh sourcing partner capable of handling complex knitwear at genuine commercial scale.

They found Milky Fashions on LinkedIn. A single message. No referral, no trade show introduction. Just a brand that had done its research and decided to make contact directly.

That first message turned into a three-year sourcing partnership that now covers 25,000 pieces per season across 8 to 9 styles — fancy knitwear and ladies tops that sit at the core of their seasonal range.

The Challenge

Fancy knitwear is one of the most technically demanding categories in Bangladesh garment manufacturing. Unlike basic jersey or standard flat-knit styles, fancy knitwear involves complex stitch structures — cables, jacquards, intarsias, and textured patterns — that require specialist machinery, experienced technicians, and precise quality management at every stage of production.

For a Norwegian brand with high design standards and a customer base that notices when a stitch repeat is off by two rows, the factory selection decision was everything. A wrong choice would produce garments that looked right in a sample room and fell apart under retail scrutiny.

The additional complexity was colourway management. With 8 to 9 styles per season, each carrying multiple colourways, the yarn sourcing, dye batch management, and colour consistency across a 25,000-piece programme required systematic coordination that goes well beyond what most small sourcing operations can deliver.

And there was one more challenge — the most honest one. This was a new relationship. We were new to their brand. They were new to Bangladesh. Neither side had the production history to fully predict how the first season would unfold.

The Milky Fashions Approach

We began where we always begin — with the brief, not the factory.

Before a single factory was approached, our team reviewed the brand’s design portfolio, assessed the stitch complexity of each style, and mapped the technical requirements to the specific machinery capabilities of our knitwear factory network. Fancy knitwear is not a category where a standard factory will do. We identified and proposed a specialist flat-bed knitting facility with documented experience in jacquard and cable construction, a quality management system aligned to European buyer requirements, and current BSCI certification.

Yarn sourcing was managed centrally. We consolidated the colourway requirements across all 9 styles, identified shared yarn bases, and structured the yarn procurement to minimise dye batch fragmentation — reducing colour variation risk across the full programme.

Sampling was thorough. Multiple iteration rounds were managed directly between our Dhaka team and the brand’s design and buying team in Norway. Every sample was reviewed against the tech pack in detail — stitch gauge, measurement tolerance, colour match, trim quality, and finishing. We did not approve samples we were not confident in.

Production ran with inline inspection at key milestones. The first season took slightly longer than our target lead time. We were transparent about this with the brand from the moment we identified the delay — not after the fact. We explained the cause, provided a revised timeline, and delivered to it.

That transparency was a deliberate choice, not a crisis response. We believe that a sourcing partner who tells you bad news early is worth ten who tell you good news late.

The Outcome

The first season delivered. Not perfectly on the original timeline — but correctly, to specification, and with the quality that the brand’s retail partners expected.

The second season was faster. The third faster again.

Three years in, this Norwegian brand runs their Bangladesh knitwear programme with us every season — 25,000 pieces, 8 to 9 styles, complex fancy construction, Scandinavian quality standards. On time. On specification. Season after season.

They have not looked elsewhere for a Bangladesh buying house. We have not given them a reason to.

Client Perspective

“We reached out to Milky Fashions through LinkedIn not knowing what to expect. The first season was not perfect — but the way they handled the delay told us everything we needed to know about how they work. Three seasons later, they are a core part of how we build our range.”

What This Case Study Demonstrates

Complex knitwear is achievable from Bangladesh — with the right factory selection, yarn management, and quality oversight. Bangladesh is not just a basics country. It is one of the world’s leading knitwear exporters, with factories capable of producing the fancy construction that European womenswear brands demand.

Transparency builds longer partnerships than perfection does. Our first season with this client was not flawless. But the way we communicated through a delay — proactively, honestly, with a solution — converted a new buyer into a loyal multi-season partner. Buyers do not expect perfection. They expect honesty.

LinkedIn works. This three-year sourcing relationship began with a single LinkedIn message. For European fashion brands evaluating Bangladesh sourcing, Milky Fashions is reachable, responsive, and ready to have a direct conversation about your programme.
